The best economics humor ever

Almost all economics PhD students hate being PhD students. They get demoralized and abused constantly. The one day a year that they rise up in triumph is the “skit party.” Almost all the programs have skit parties where the students make fun of the faculty.

This video (from the Columbia skit party as far as I can tell) is the funniest thing I have ever seen produced by economists. The person singing in the video is pretending to be Glenn Hubbard who was one of the leading candidates to be the Chair of the Federal Reserve, but the job was instead given to Ben Bernanke.

[Correction, added May 5: Apparently this video was done by MBA students for their skit party, not by PhD students. I guess that explains why it is so good!]

(Thanks to Charlie Van Wagner for sending this link to me.)

CU

The skit is by MBA students from Columbia Business School, where Hubbard is dean, not PhD students.

I don't think economists can get any funnier than that! I've watched 3 times, can't stop laughing!

just plan dumb!

Actually, it was created to lampoon Hubbard who didn't make it to the Fed.

My favorite lines were:

1) "When demand then dips and the yield curve flips."

and

2) "Bet that beard's fake; we'll be watching you"

The video doesn't work for me (probably missing a plug-in), but I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed your May 2 talk at Colorado College. Did the extra $2 on the book price go to you or the CC econ department?

I'm pretty sure those are MBA students. Last year the same guy played Hubbard in "Dean, Dean Baby", which was also hilarious.

Dr. Funk

"I dream at night that I punch you in the face."

Gold.

I'm a Columbia GSB alum, have had the chance to dine with Dean Hubbard (and chatted breifly about his starring role in "Dean Dean Baby") and saw both videos just after they were produced. The comments above are correct - those are MBA students, although from the quailty of the videos now, it could seem they were in the arts.

When I asked Dean Hubbard about his first video, I believe his answer was:

"Too Cool. Too Cool"

Noooooo...I thought economics could be funny for once...

We applaud the cleverness of our friends at Columbia, but Wharton MBA students made a video based on the same song for their annual "Follies" show in the pre-internet days of 1984.
