Do women really make less money than men? As the CNN columnist, Jeanne Sahadi, argues, the wage gap is not a reliable indication of the financial oppression of women. I would like to spin-off this and contend that, at least, the typical married woman has more economic power than she realizes: women influence over 80 percent of all vehicle purchases; are responsible for an increasingly greater share of home buying decisions among married couples; etc. Even if women have lower average and median wages, they still wield a fair bit of economic power over their husbands in this context, maybe closer to par with men in middle-class America- just be sure to get a good lawyer for your divorce.
