Interesting how the 9 of the top 10 most stolen cars are American made. Wonder how this compares to top 10 auto sales.

Gary

Hilariously, the most stolen cars of 2008 are the one's dealerships can't give away these days.

Mo

The list of most stolen cars is interesting
They are all gas guzzlers and high priced, i think this is insurance fraud people bought the big gas guzzlers were upside down on their loans and had the car stolen! But this list does not list the year of the car. I remember in the past it was always like the 1995 Honda Civic and old Toyota Camry's that were stolen

mike

Note that the list of 'most stolen cars' is really 'most stolen, per thousand sold'

If you sold ten times as many Civics as Escalades, but the Civics were only 5 times as likely to be stolen, then the Escalade would score twice as high on this list. Yet the Civics would still be much more stolen, and much more likely to be stolen.

In short, it's a worthless measure.

Robert

I'd say the Escalades and Hummers get stolen a lot because they're fashionable in thug subculture.

Patrick

I agree with Mo at number 3, as these cars are mostly gas guzzlers, and I'm sure many people were having their cars
"stolen" as a result of high gas prices this year.

I don't feel that this is a worthless measure at all. It certainly has value, but not necessarily because the cars are the most stolen. The quantified number "per thousand" is very valuable for looking at other information.

I think Robert at number is confused. These cars don't get stolen so someone can get it tagged. Cars get stolen so they can be sold to a chop shop for $500. This is more about high fuel prices than street value, however.
