If There Were a Prediction Market for Events That Are Likely to Become "Talk of the Town" Articles …

I’d go long on the following:

Mark Oppenheimer, who writes the “Beliefs” column about religion for The New York Times, and who is a frequent writer for Slate and The New York Times Magazine, didn’t want to have just another book party. His new book, Wisenheimer: A Childhood Subject to Debate (Free Press, April 13, 2010), is a memoir about an articulate kid who overcomes social awkwardness to become a champion debater. So what better way to celebrate its publication, he decided, than to have a public debate?
Please join Oppenheimer as he squares off against former national high-school champion Hanna Rosin (now of The Atlantic and Slate, but first Stuyvesant High School ’87) to debate the topic “Resolved: American political dialogue is in trouble.” Each of them will be partnered with a current high school debater: one from Stuyvesant, the other from Regis High School, both top New York City debate schools.
Also present to give floor speeches will be former high school and college debate stars David Lat, former Wonkette who now edits the legal-gossip blog Above the Law, and Jerry Vildostegui, professor at Rutgers Law School.
Please come celebrate the art of debate and oratory with Oppenheimer, Rosin, and their present-day high school heirs. The event will take place on April 22, 2010, at 7 p.m. at xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, New York, NY. For more information, please call or e-mail xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx at Free Press, xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.
Heckling, floor speeches, and general ribaldry will be tolerated.

FWIW, I hope it does become a Talk piece, because I’d love to read it.
