Trash Stalking

Researchers at M.I.T.’s Senseable City Lab have asked volunteers in New York and Seattle to affix electronic tracking tags to their trash this summer so that they can track, in real-time, where each piece travels. Part of the program’s goal is to “reveal the disposal process of our everyday objects and waste.” But, with the participants’ trash-disposal habits being closely monitored, might the study reveal what the best disposal behavior looks like?
