"University suspends blood drives to protest federal ban on gay blood donors"

Cut off your nose to spite your face, no?

Nina

Quite right, too. The ban on gay blood donors is not based on science; it's based on superstition and bigotry. A man who had sex with a junkie prostitute 12 months ago can donate blood, but not a man who has been in a monogamous gay relationship for 15 years. Sheer insanity.

ever tacked a "www." in front of freakonomics.com? what's up with that?

"University suspends blood drives to protest federal ban on gay blood donors"
Simple solution. Allow gay blood donors but segregate their donations from the general population. All University people who agreed with the suspension would draw blood from the bank of gay donors.
They would be able to compare relative risk with political correctiveness...

"And as emotions go, one of them -- fear -- is more potent than the rest." -Freakonomics, p. 134.

So is this cowardice (or prejudice disguised as cowardice) or is there evidence for the need to ban "gay" blood? (I can't get the link to work.)
