I wonder... will the WordPress registration scheme keep out the troublemakers? Will it also discourage legitimate commenters?

(It didn't discourage me, I suppose.)

Will the value gained from keeping out troublemakers exceed the value lost from discouraging legitimate commenters? I guess we'll see. Should be an interesting experiment.

I'm proud of you guys for getting away from Blogger.

I posted a comment about switching to WP, but from the speed of it, you had to have been alrady along that route.

Good luck with keeping out the Ivy League riff-raff !

I wonder… will the WordPress registration scheme keep out the troublemakers?

Maybe not, but there's always the option of blacklisting. In the end, the only way to not get hassled, is to become insignificant. :)

Congrats on the new blog-format. It looks very slick, just hoping that html works.

Rian

Excellent. WordPress is an awesome blog system with a ridiculous amount of plugins available. It's like the swiss army knife of blog software. :)

Gringo_Nordestino

Well, lets run it up the flag pole and see who salutes. Seems ok to me!! :)

Interesting discussion about pros and cons of anonymous posting:

it may keep away a casual, or one time poster, but those who wish to participate will more than likely remain.. even those who just want to agitate and cause problems will do so with multiple email accounts.. sock puppets will still be making guest appearances..

Ivy League riff raff is in!

Though likely a "character and personality" admitee (versus one of the "brilliant").

Mike@Simplenomics

Hi Leia, O' Princessy One,

Glad to see the riff are able to raff, even on WordPress !

I'm rather "simple" , but I'll try to keep up.

Since it's a wordpress blog, you can also read the RSS at http://www.freakonomics.com/blog/feed/ and the comments RSS at http://www.freakonomics.com/blog/comments/feed/ . But, I suppose the authors prefer to use feedburner as a buffer and to keep track of their stats!

Hey, congrats on making a wise choice on your blogging platform! My blog has been WP-based since February. Truly empowering software!

Read Freakonomics, enjoyed it, and reviewed it some time back on my blog.

Princess Leia

Even though I find a dose of book learnin' and such to be intoxicating, Mike, I'm sure we can be good friends.

Yeah, I'm all about *Keep It Simple, S----*!

Also, commas and periods go inside the close-quote, please.

StCheryl

It's a little more work, but let's hope it works. I still like my idea about charging people for uncivil comments!

Aaron_B

I'd like to read a blog post about the freakonomics (or even economics) of Word Press, if any.

Dear steves,

Love the new look! I especially like the six links.

4/6=66% are narcissistic navel gaving
1/6 (Gladwell) is fawning
and (nice touch!) 1/6 is a woman, but alas, it's sort of a joke

I'd say you did a great job of representing the content of this blog!

Keep up the good work!

DF

P.S. I don't know why you referred to me as "our dear" but thanks for the publicity!

StCheryl

Congratulations on the Quill Award. I see that my Chicago-style voting strategy worked ;)

StCheryl

I thought Deb Frish had moved on. Judging by the entry above, I guess not. Maybe she and Steve Sailer can get together and do an economists version of "The Taming of the Shrew". Or "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better".

I don't see how anything would be lost. The troublemakers have blogs. If they really feel their points are worth raising, they can just write thoughtful article at their own blog.

That should, if anything, elevate the level of discussion. And, of course, if the troublemakers activate their own comments, people will be able to comment on their counter argument.

Seems a better system to me.

Hey, that's what I'd do if someone kept telling me I did't knit right at my blog!

Congratulations on winning the Quills award guys!
