Introducing National [Insert Holiday Here] Day
We’ve decided to begin a new tradition here at Freakonomics in which we call attention to the diversity and richness of America’s unique capacity for celebration (and self-interest) by highlighting the official (or unofficial) holiday associated with each day of the year (and yes, there is at least one holiday for each day of the year).
And so … drumroll please … let it hereby be known that today, June 1, marks the beginning of not only Potty Training Awareness Month but also National Soul Food Month. (Surely there are some homes in which those two are inextricably linked.)
As for June 1 itself, please note that today is Kentucky Statehood Day, Pen Pal Day, and — a no-brainer — Leave the Office Early Day.
