A freakenomic querry: How much money do HMO's and insurer's actually save society by compelling so called prior authorization for cerain medicnes and procedures. As a small practice, I have 1 fte, a nurse, doing 75% of her time getting these done. That's one practice @ $40,000. This seems like aninteresting problem to look into. Any interest! Thanks for book and blog.

That is how the UK healthcare system works (and probably several other models we supposedly should adopt) so perhaps they already know the answer. Although since the government employs everybody in the office, maybe they don't bother to figure it out.
