Our Daily Bleg: 21st Century Movie Lines Only
Our resident quote bleggar Fred Shapiro, editor of the Yale Book of Quotations, is back with another request. If you have a bleg of your own, send it along here.
Thanks to all for the hundreds of responses to the movie lines bleg. I was looking for 21st-century quotes, but there was some confusion on the issue.
My sense is that the following are the big lines of the millennium so far (not in any particular order):
“I drink your mikshake!” There Will Be Blood
“I’ve had it with these motherf*****g snakes on this motherf*****g plane!” Snakes on a Plane
“I wish I knew how to quit you.” Brokeback Mountain
“This is Sparta!” 300
“Ready your breakfast and eat hearty. For tonight we dine in hell!” 300
“Call it.” No Country for Old Men
“So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause.” Revenge of the Sith
I exclude Lord of the Rings lines, as these are really from the book. (Were the Brokeback, No Country for Old Men, and 300 lines also present in the source material?)
This week I ask for more suggestions of memorable 21st-century film lines, in case the distraction of century confusion suppressed some of the contributions last week. That’s 2000-2008 or 2001-2008, depending on your definitional preference.
