The Life of a Whistle-Blower
Jake Whitney of Guernica interviews Michela Wrong, whose new book, It’s Our Turn to Eat: The Story of a Kenyan Whistle-Blower, tells the story of John Githongo‘s anti-corruption crusade in Kenya. Githongo, Kenya’s anti-corruption czar in President Mwai Kibaki‘s much-hyped anti-corruption administration, uncovered a corruption scandal involving several high-level Kenyan government officials. Githongo eventually received death threats as a result of his investigations and was forced to flee to London, where he took refuge in Wrong’s home. Whitney writes that, “Wrong uses Githongo’s ordeal to explore the rifts that permeate Kenya today: tribalism, colonialism, western aid, and, of course, corruption.” [%comments]
