Read Freakonomics at Your Peril
Freakonomics has gotten people in trouble before. In 2005, a student was kicked out of a classroom for citing the book’s abortion/crime argument. Another reader claimed he was asked to leave his office when a fellow employee saw the book on his desk, and was offended by a passage about lynchings. Now, two Utah teenagers, members of a local youth council, were removed from the council after asking guest speaker Rudy Giuliani about the abortion/crime link. The council adviser, Paul Johnson, said the removal was “due to insubordination, not the question asked.”[%comments]
