The Safest Time of Year for Swedish Drivers

Does a bad winter equal more traffic fatalities? Not in Sweden. Despite a particularly brutal winter, traffic fatalities in January and February were at record lows. It seems the snow resulted in fewer and more cautious drivers: “Large piles of snow at the sides of the roads, and lower speeds on roads with wintry conditions, are some of the reasons given for the low fatality rate. The winter has also meant that fewer two-wheeled vehicles, and their unprotected riders, have been on the roads.” (HT: Gerard Ross)[%comments]
